i'm currently taking an elective 2-credit module called "Designing Promotional Materials" it's a really fun class and i'm always looking forward to it!

this past lesson, we were tasked to create an advertisement with the information given to us, which included the phrase "Big joys come in small packages", the MCYS logo, the description and any picture of a toddler.

this is what i came up with in 10 minutes (the tutor was running out of time). i think it's lacking something.. can't really figure it out :/

my tutor said it was pretty decent work but i'm guessing that it's because everyone else used microsoft word, default fonts from Windows and smacked the picture in the center like a "WANTED" poster. i thought the way he described it as a "WANTED" poster was hilarious.

anyway. back to my purpose of posting this up:

his name is yoogeun, who was in a variety show where a group of singers would take care of him for one day in a week, for a couple of weeks. it's a korean show called "Hello Baby" and i find it really entertaining! fyi, my mum loves that show cause it had the group "SHINee" in it. lol.

these couple of days has been pretty good.
in terms of school, that is.

last friday we has an excursion to the other end of school
to check out this prototyping center we have on campus.
never had a reason to go there but it was really cool!
they have industrial machines that can actually make toys and stuff.

yesterday our only class was an excursion to
the singapore navy open house.
they have one every 3 years (rotation with the army and air force)
so that was really cool.

as for today,

we're having another excursion.
this time to vivo city.

it's nothing much, just the largest shopping mall in singapore.
like 1.04 million square feet of shopping.
yeah, that's about it.

we'll be looking out for innovative products or services.
prolly gonna have to do an evaluation or something.

What I found particularly interesting is that my family has been doing all these.. and more.

On top of family meals, family council and vacations, we have family home evening every monday night, occasional parent-child interviews, daily family scripture reading, family prayers twice a day and we go to church together every sunday.

Brought it home and cut a length of pretty, thin, dark blue ribbon (love them) and tied a little red wooden bead that i got a while back and... wah la, you get a lovely bookmark. (i'm gonna use this in my institute manual!)

I was thinking about something on the line of self confidence the other day, after reading a line off photographer Natalie Norton's blog:

"Always ask yourself this question: “am I proud of this shot?” if the answer is “yes” then it doesn’t matter what anyone else says."

I like to get people's opinion and photographers' critiques of my pictures. It helps me keep an eye out for things i tend to over look, like details and leading lines. I like to ask around, "Hey what do you think about this XXX picture?".. or something like that.

It helps to a certain extent because I get another point of view. But here's my problem. There are some times when i receive a comment (which are kinda subjective like on composition) that i don't really agree with.. Though i receive it graciously, I have a tendancy to scrutinize the picture after that and get flustered over it.

Glad to say, I've learnt my lesson from Natalie Norton.

If I'm happy with the picture, I'll love it.. and i'll still love it no matter what anyone says. I'll still take in feedback- no doubt- but I have learnt to stop second guessing the quality of my pictures.

And by the way, if you have the local issue of the Liahona, my pictures for the articles on the musical can be found there. Keep an eye out for that! Then you can nudge the person beside you and say," Haha! I know the photographer." Juuust for the fun of it!! (:

The inner flautist in me made a request for this picture so i'm posting it up.

I've always wanted to be able to play the flute.
Well, obviously i CAN, just not as well as i would have liked to. I always thought there was something missing.
Also, I've always wanted to be a vet. You know how many children want to be that awesome vet who cures all the animals and make them well and their owners, happy.
(but i still want a pet cat when i get my own house. seriously.)

The trick is to make sure my dreams don't get sour this time. haha.

And this- I really have to share! I was texting a friend yesterday and we had a conversation in korean. not actual korean alphabets of course (i don't think his phone has the capability but i'm quite sure mine doesn't!) but in the romanized version. it was really fun. jaemitda^^

Something Worth The Thought

ACHIEVEMENTS

As I was taking these pictures for my elder brother and my thoughts drifted somewhat to what amanda told me one time about the BYU admission essay thing she had to write, that had to do with accomplishments you've had in the past 4 years. And i though that it was something worth thinking about!

Without going into the details, I believe that my greatest accomplishment in the past 4 years is personal growth. I'm not trying to say that i'm holier-than-thou kinda thing.. I'm just grateful that certain events have occured in my life that has made me a better person as a whole, that's it! I have had several experiences that has helped me grow mentally and spiritually, some of which are a little too personal to speak of.. online, at least!

One particular thing I've learnt is that standards are really there to help you, and sometimes you won't fully understand it until you grow older, where you really put theory into practice.

I hope that there are things that you feel that you've accomplished in the past 4 years, and are worth mentioning. Since today's sunday, in the midst of the festive hustle, perhaps take 5 minutes to think about it?

My Cube Family

You won't believe how tough it is to clone yourself, on your own. this one really took me a while to do, but i really like how it came out (:

The newest addition (it's 12.45am saturday morning now.. and i almost typed "edition". haha!) to the cube family. my pretty mirror blocks cube. I'm not confident enough to take an average timing now but i'll probably try it out during the holidays.

And.. there we go! Talking about families. Chinese new year's here, again. Renuions, relatives, the lou hei thing, hongbaos, and sinfully evil CNY food. However, I wouldn't wish for >24h a day. Why? It takes the fun out of it! Imagine having an eternal stash of money and purchasing that hanakimi thingy (or whatever fits) you've always wanted. Contrast that to saving up for weeks and drooling over it, then finally getting enough money and purchasing it.

Of course the first method is so much easier and faster, but you'll definitely treasure it much more through the second method.

How to work around the lack of time:

Focus.

Prioritize.

Trust the Lord.

I Need Some Humans.

You know what. I should totally have like a to-do list for pictures that i would like to take this year. I'm very disturbed that i'm taking more pictures of non-humans compared to humans.. just because.

TSK. no life.

I really need a great picture of a sunrise and some smashing pictures of homo sapiens. Ideally, i would rather opt for "many" or "overflowing", instead of "some" smashing pictures though.

One big reason why don't I have many shots of humans is because i'm really picky with the background. i'm not a big fan of buildings and all. I prefer (and appreciate) outdoor portraits. natural outdoor portraits with no sign of mordernisation. that would be so perfect.

perhaps i'll put that on my list too (:

i've actually been keeping my eyes open to great places for outdoor shoots (i think they're a little more awesome compared to studio shots which tend to be stark and stiff more often than not). I hope that i can be able to find the time and people to shoot. that'll be great! on that note, no one is not photogenic. it's really dependent on the photographer to bring out the good looking side of subjects.. if you get what i mean!

A Day Late.

HOW FAR DO YOU WANT TO GO?

I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day. It has become conscious to me that how far we go in life is largely dependent on how much we want it.

Of course, there are all sorts of situations that may hinder or elevate your chances of reaching your desired goal. External forces like choices and actions of others are usually not within our control and more often than not, they do affect our personal lives to even the smallest extent.

However, people like myself can't afford to have other people make our plans sour. because i have not other choice. CORRECTION. because i have no other choice that i would settle for. For example, I have a thing (a big thing) against office jobs. Nothing against them, just that it's not the kind of profession i'm looking for. Therefore, I need to find a less conventional source of income upon graduation from polytechnic. fyi, it's not a 'want' or a 'would like to-situation'.. it's a NEED.

How far we go in life depends on how much we want it. Our need to achieve a certain something has a direct relationship with how much effort we exert, which usually reflects in the end result.

Well, that's just something to think about! To all our O-Level friends, i'm not going to wish you good luck because i sincerely hope you're not counting on luck to make the grade. I hope your results reflect the time and effort you put into your school work and that you get a deserving mark. been there, done that- you'll survive! (:

First Picture of The Year

SHED THE OLD

It's that time of the year again, when everyone speaks of what they've gained from the year before and their new year's resolutions. I've got nothing against sharing learning points but there's a certain something about new year resolutions that eeks me more often than not.

New year resolutions are made at the beginning of the year, then usually end up found hidden under other books, scraps of paper, and post-it pads at the end of the year, accompanied by a suprised expression,"oh right.. i wrote that down!"

Now isn't that the most annoying part (:

True enough, new year resolutions are the first step to the path of happiness (so to speak. well maybe it's more like having a sense of gratification.) but what many people overlook are the subsequent steps beyond that first step. I believe that setting supporting goals and follow-through are things worth considering.. on that note, dreams will always be dreams unless you do something about it. Agreed?

2009 was an interesting year though. Out of the many things that i've gained and accomplished, i've learnt more about myself. Made mistakes (no doubt!), got hurt big time (deserving), but now I have a clear picture of the person i am, and what i want in life. If it doesnt fall in line with what's marked out, i will let it fall aside. One thing's for sure, i'm gonna make sure my kids grow up with the gospel and have parents with unwavering testimonies- because there isn't any other better way to bring up children than in a home parents care and lead the way, and children honour and obey = making home a part of heaven. (now doesn't that sound familiar!)

It's midnight and I should totally be asleep right now. If mum comes out and finds me awake she' might get mad. I weighed the opportunity cost and decided that i'd go ahead and post this picture up. Just because i like it a lot and would like to share it with ya'll.

I'm so kind, sigh.

Yeah whatever. (can totally imagine manda rolling her eyes!) Anyway this picture is one of my faves of the lot. I'd always wanted to get a really good picture of lens flare which i think is one of the coolest effect you can get with a dslr. (fyi, those tiny dots you see near the power lines are actually birds. tiny birds. not dust on my lens - that would be funny!) I'm pretty sure you can get it on a compact.. but i havent been really successful with that heh heh. oh well! what ever rolls, right?

It's been really great spending so much time with my family. It's way fun! We watched Avatar 3-D yesterday with the Sng s. My dad knew their dad since he was 7. And the kids are cool. I mean they're mostly older than myself but i just use the word "kids" to replace "offsprings" which just sounds weird. they're 22, 21, 14 and 10. guy, guy, guy, girl. The two oldest guys are RMs!

Chuch was so awesome. Plus, I met a girl called Lucy in church today that's really cool who knows Andrew and Cheryl Woo. Now, how cool is that! (Ans: VERY.)

Oh well, I really should be off now. Tomorrow will be a great day! ttyl. (haha!)

Just when I told you of the wonderful weather, the temperature dropped to just below freezing. It snowed quite a bit overnight and it's melting away, really slowly though. I'm such a jinx! Family pictures in the great out outdoors would just have to wait. Oh well.. another time. Make the best of what you have!

There isn't photoshop or any photo editing software on my mum's laptop, so the rest of the pictures would have to wait! but there are some pretty good shots coming, wait for it!

In Texas now! The weather is amazing. It feels about 20 degrees odd, very air-con like. lovely. there are people practically jogging in shirt and short. There's a really sceneic trail where we are, hopefully we have time to get some pictures. that'll be the best (:

Gotta love my butterfly, took about 20 odd tries to get it right. I'm quite satisfied with the results.. it looks great on the picture of amanda that i put up on facebook!

oh my goodness samantha chen is finally back from the states and now i'm gonna go. she's on a crazy RIBBON spree or something (: adorable.

there's going to be an influx of pictures this coming week and i won't be able to do any post processing until i get back so that'll keep me busy for a bit. i hope i'll have the time to put something up around midweek if all goes well. Crossing my fingers!

I'm really lovin this picture i took on saturday. I grabbed a crunchy and juicy green apple from the stash and was suddenly reminded of g-dragon (a korean singer) who's signature is a red apple with a "G" on it. One of his recent videos featured a whole wall of red apples with a heart like the one i replicated above.

There's really not much significance to it. I just think it's pretty cool. It's my wallpaper now btw.

27 Nov Shoot

These are just a couple of pictures from the shoot I went for on 27th Nov. Kinda pressed for time, didn't even go through the whole lot. I think they're just OKAY though, not fantastic yet. Definitely need more practice! Though I must say that i'm quite satisfied with the blurriness of the background.

It's gonna be pretty busy busy busy for me starting monday.. I've got my Korean mid term exam on tuesday, followed by common tests for 4 modules commencing on 14th dec.

Rewinding a little, there's Christmas Nativity thingy which is like way awesome i totally HAVE to go from the 10th to 12th.. on an official mission to take pictures (: gonna get like tons of pictures of the "cast" haha. it's going to be such a blast.

Following that i'll have to pack real quick, leaving for a much needed family vacation on the 21st, coming back on 2nd jan so no new year's eve dance (snap). School starts on the 4th and life goes back to normal.

KICK OFF THOSE SHOES
we can all do with a break sometimes

Went to Marina Barrage for our club outing, that's a shot of my friend's shoe! A madly packed weekend is just about to come to an end, only to welcome a week of presentations, project deadlines, whatcha-ma-call-its and all that shabang. Of which.. the week after would be my common test week- leading into a glorious 2 week vacation to my wonderful wonderful birthplace, Texas. It's gonna be way awesome.

For now, what I really need now is a good sleep. That'll be nice for a change. I slept at 9pm once (once, really long ago) and it was amazing. Woke up for seminary at 4.30am and felt so good about it. I'm trying to inch my sleeping time earlier by the day but sometimes school work barges in and messes it up. Oh well. Thankful I have a school to go for in the first place! Ngee Ann's great, wouldn't trade it for any other polytechnic.

WHERE I'M GOING

CES fireside by Pres Uchtdorf this evening was a real blessing. I thoroughly enjoyed it! After the session I told myself that I'm never ever going to miss a fireside no matter how jellyfied I am cause it's really time well spent, however you look at it.

The point that stuck out to me the most was to "know who you are, where you came from, and where you're going". Pres Uchtdorf mentioned that knowing who you are can help anyone overcome any barriers in life.

I was feeling exceptionally troubled last night so I put iTunes on shuffle and it started playing "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", the EFY version. Soon, it got to:

"He lives to comfort me when faint
He lives to hear my soul's complaint
He lives to silence all my fears
He lives to wipe away my tears

Seriously, I needed that.

I've been too caught up with (now..) seemingly trivial stuff that really didn't deserve the amount of attention I was giving. Well I wouldn't change that cause it was a really good learning experience for me.

Thanks to the fireside, I've resolved to really focus on things that are more important. (Which might sound really simple, but.. we all have our quirks!) To do things that fill myself with hope. I will have a clear knowledge of who I am, where I'm from and what I can become.

Because this brief span of life on earth is nothing, compared to eternity.

What's worst than thinking you're just another human being on earth is to put down who you are. I guess it's a stage that everyone has to go through. Comparison and bench marking is totally fine. But when it evolves into unrealistically high self expectations coupled with negative self talk, it's simply no-go. When we do so, we put down our individual worth and tend to forget that we do have our own strengths and talents. Like how the primary song goes "everyone is needed for just what he can do. You're the only person who ever can be you".

I've learnt to be more thankful for what I have been blessed with, as well as taking difficulties as they come and making the best of it. If something doesn't doesn't build yourself or build others, it's not worth the time.

Which reminds me.. YW in Excellence this friday! All i need is to get my personal progress book signed (:

DRAWING ON THE POWERS OF HEAVEN

I've never touched this book nor read it, even though it has been in the possession of my family for a long time. Well, I only say that because the page that preceeds the title page reads in blue ink, "Elder Terence Lim Chen Wee". As my mum tells me what this book means to her, I thumb through the pages briefly and couldn't help but notice the several highlights, underlines and notes written in small font by the margin. "This is going to be a good one," I tell myself.

I spent the day watching videos on the Mormon Messages Channel on Youtube and it was most inspiring and uplifting. Very rewarding indeed.

Life is not always easy; it was not meant to be so. It's a time of testing and proving.
We learn to handle disappointment and sorrow, which in turn builds character and increases our compassion for others.

Finally, the week comes to an end. I've been dying for some real sleep, which explains my waking up at 11am today. (Yes that's very abnormal for me)
A pity that I'd wasted so many hours but I reasoned that it was necessary. At least I managed to get my body clock adjusted somewhat.

Had an eventful day. Yup. Eventful it was. I finally got to open up the family's copy of "Preach My Gospel".. Procrastination has a way of getting to you.

Covered page 29-33, feeling really accomplished. My mind isn't perfectly clear but it's definitely much better than before!

Those pictures were shot at Singapore Zoo's Fragile forest. Pretty amazing place. The Ring-tailed Lemurs were practically fearless. To the point that I was starting to believe it was a domestic cat disguised as a lemur.

The butterfly pictures are actually one of my most.. wait.. they ARE my best shots of butterflies to date. Very photogenic creatures. Lovely.

Anyway, this will just be a tiny little post. I'm not even half way through editing the rest of my zoo pictures cause school work's been kinda.. yeah. Mad. Hope ya'll are doing well though. I'll be able to post around mid-week if all goes well? See how it goes!

Singapore Zoo

HELLO BABOONS.

(i was referring to the picture, not you duh!)

My dear friend Alia and I went to the Zoo on monday cause we didn't have any lectures. It was mad fun! After the 7 hours spent in the zoo, we sat down, dead tired. She turned to me and said," Hey Kandace I just realized that we didn't take a picture together."

I just stared at her and laughed. Both of us were too dead to take any more pictures- heading home was the only thing we had energy to do. Big bummer. Then again, there's always another time!

Total captures for the day was 1142. Too many! First filter got me to about 900. Second filter trimmed it down to 839. I don't know if i should carry out one last filter or just start my post processing. I only edit my favourites.. but that's still a whole lot to edit.

Priorities. Hmm.

I stumbled on this interesting quote by Pres. Hinckley today though:

"Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds"

I can't agree more, it's so true!

BROWN TWINE AND EVERYTHING FINE

This past friday was my last day of the 7-week internship. The feeling is beyond awesome. Indescribably awesome. I got to say hi to my lovely camera once again, played around with the ever so amazing 50mm and got a picture of this ball of twine.

My friend and I were just talking about how cool twine was. I can imagine a Christmas present wrapped in brown paper with twine going around the sides like they always do and a pink card with like an embossed name in silver wordings. That'll be so cute.

Speaking of which, I've begun to appreciate simple things in life. Not that I've never, or hardly, but more so in the past few days. Simple things like rain, my cube, having a pen just when you really needed one, post-it pads and paper clips, as well as lovely green grass. Sometimes I like to stare at grass and think. (I'm not watching grass grow by the way) Or I might find myself arguing with my other self on whether grass has feelings. It's during these quiet times where my weirdly eccentric alter ego would surface, haha.

And yes, I am very aware that I shouldn't have said that, but in the name of Johari's Window I will not backspace that. Kandace 101. Welcome (:

School's starting for me this coming week, I might not have as much time to update as would like to but for the fun of it and my own sanity, it should be less frequent than weekly.

Wenjie told me he was going to update his blog today but he didnt.
For now, i'm deprived of the latest scoops of him and COUGH *RRRrrrr..* COUGH.
Anyway, he was wondering what was up with my msn nick. HAHA. I told him it was part of a really nice song. So here wenjie/fred/pink tie/purple cow, the link.

Speaking of new songs, my Gor Josh gave me this really awesome song which was recommended by paul chan called "TTL" , by Supernova and T-ara. It's very very korean.. (duh) meaning it's a love it/hate it kinda thing. An aquired taste. But if you like it, you'll prolly like a lot of korean songs. They can rap so well.

And I think I've been brained washed by Super Junior. Why? They have a chinese song. Yes, in mandarin. And I like it. The dancing is not in sync, it's in chinese, the music video features a member of SNSD, the music sounds odd but I like it. I think it's donghae. he looks good in the video. he's in grey.. at about 1:35 into the video.

My photography skills are deteriorating big time. I need to make a trip down (soon, real soon) to a camera shop to get the dust off the camera mirror. And, little Nikon and I need to take a walk and get some sun!

Conference

It's a lovely sunday afternoon, conference sessions went very well. I particularly enjoyed the music sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Epecially the Primary songs like "Love is spoken here", "My Heavenly Father Loves Me", as well as the non-primary songs including "O Divine Redeemer" and "I Need Thee Every Hour".

I knew, but never really realized how meaningful the lyrics to primary songs were until Pres Henry B. Eyring read out the lyrics to the song "I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus" during the sunday morning session. Amazingly moving.

We just had our usual family sharing of what we took away from the conference. It's always interesting to hear what others have to say. I have quite a lot of favourites, one of them was by Elder Uchdorf, the last speaker for the Saturday morning session:

"Try and keep on trying until that which seems difficult becomes possible—and that which seems only possible becomes habit and a real part of you."

It's applicable to any task that I undertake, whether it be school, work, photography or ironing shirts (haha) - one of those things that get you thinking about improving your way of life. Perhaps I would call it a personal commitment of some sort.

I believe we can improve and build on today without having to wait for tomorrow.

DREAMS, ASPIRATIONS AND THE FUTURE

One fine day at work, I found myself thinking about the future.
(I wasn't daydreaming, don't worry!)
I was thinking how I'll never have an office job so I wouldn't have to sorting invoices by alphabetical order like I was doing at that time. Or listen to the melodic background music.. a chorus of phones ringing for the whole day. Or go to work in formal wear, 5 days a week.

Not that it's bad, it's just not my type of work (:
You know what I mean?

The future. The future is tomorrow actually. Yes it's also 10 years down the road and I'll be 28 (wow), wonder what my daily routine will be. Any guesses? Haha (:
But tomorrow.. tomorrow will be a good day. It's friday (end of yet another week), work ends .5h earlier, and the next day would be saturday. Saturday is institute day (last class btw).. saturday leads to sunday. Sunday is church day! Sunday is also a smashing day cause I get to see my lovely churchies (: awesomeness.

Just thinking aloud there haha.

Gosh. Now that I brought it up, I'm really starting to wonder where I'll be in 10 years time. I wonder if I'll be married and have kids by then. heh heh. Also, where manda will be in 10 years time. (Now that was random) I wonder if we'll have another stake. Wooh. Sounds cool yeah? Do you ever let your mind drift and think about your future?

Oh well. I took half day today to choose my IS module for the coming semester. Gotta go to work now.

YES BEFORE I GO, haha. You know i picked this really cool crab claw and stone from convention? I put it in this really really cute glass bottle thingy with like nice and fine american sand. Convention was more than I could ask for. Had the time of my life- made new friends, got closer to my current friends, played the best camp games, got a nice tan, went out to the sea on low tide, enjoyed workshops and played cash&guns (SO FUN. thank you godfather Han).

Besides the theme "Come what may and love it", one other phrase that stuck out to me was "Remember who you are".

Sometimes we get so caught up with work/school, making sure your hair's straight, fitting in and all, that we might find ourselves losing focus on what's really more important: the inside. Check out the shellfish in the picture. It's shell was dry and brown and not so cool, but when you looked inside, it's so reflective and shiny and pretty. I thought that was one of the main points I got out of the convention.

It was interesting to compare YC and Convention. In convention, testimony meeting went overtime (for YC, much time is taken up by the leaders). Guys are so much more gentleman-ly. Bunk mates say morning and night prayers without fail. Leaders trust you more..

Holy guacamoley exam results will be sent to my phone tmr, so nervous. (Ngee Ann Poly service especially for students! Awesome yes?? *GO NP!*)

I've got a pile of pictures STILL sitting in the CF card (not even on my laptop yet). Hopefully I'll be able to do up a couple before heading for YSA/SA Convention, my first convention so I'm pretty excited (except for the fact that the poster COUGH*COUGH*COUGH excuse me haha!). Nah, Kandace doesn't get upset with people so easily (:

This week would mark the end of my third week of internship, I'm learning to enjoy it more, colleagues are so funny! Today while taking a short breather I found out that I had a hidden talent:

I can play the ABC song on a rubberband that's holding a stack of cheques.

(Also, "Mary Had A Little Lamb") There is definitely room for improvement, but I'd reckon it's pretty good for a first try (: Took a short video of it for kicks- I enjoy laughing to myself and at myself. Haha! That's life you see. Some humans are just too serious for their own good, pity.

Oh yes and talking about life, I'll be taking Korean 101 next semester as an additional module (with no credits) just for fun, so I'm really excited!

And of course, wenjie visited Singapore over the weekend! It was really cool to see him on Singapore soil, haha.

Anyway, life has been pretty imbalanced to a small portion of a large degree. Work's pretty strenuous (anything after 4 days of relaxing WOULD BE kinda taxing) and sometimes I get back like a piece of jelly.

HAHAHA.

What did I just say, lol.

It's estimated that settling in takes about 2 weeks, according to a book I'd read not too long ago. Quite true I must say. I've been posted to the Finance department so a big part of my work has to do with invoices and stuff like that. And there's this awesome machine I'm so good at using.. heh. I'll get to that some other time (:

Institute on saturday was a big break for me. (suprisingly found several wednesday people there) One point that I found particularly interesting:

"Be able to say that today is a good day to die because all was done the way it should be"

It's those days where you helped mum with the dishes and laundry, was nice to your siblings, shared, pondered on scriptures, and perhaps didn't say an unkind word.

Will tomorrow be a good day to die?

EMBRACING UNCERTAINTY

Just thinking about it, there are many opportunities to embrace uncertainty. But what so cool about it that warrants us to accept it, least bit embrace it? Besides, untrodden paths in our life are untrodden for a reason. Yes?

I thought so too.

Kept things at it was, going with the mentality of "if it's not broken don't fix it". Mistake on my part. I made a friend a little too late, and now I wonder how troubled days would have been had a spoken to someone a little more frequently and perhaps a little more genuinely.

I do regret my actions.. or should I say, NON-action (haha) and hopefully can improve and embrace uncertainty a bit better in the days to come. Perhaps speak with someone I don't usually speak with or just have a plesant and meaningful conversation with a friend.

Internship starting tomorrow, hopefully my friends and I will be able to adapt into the team with ease and have a wonderful learning experience (:

Taking a break off my academics, I decided to let my mind rest momentarily on blogger.

Okay. You're probably thinking "What's up with Kandace and Korean?"
It's a very good question and it's definitely very valid. I like to ask myself that sometimes.

I like to believe that I've grown to be more ethnorelative. Being able to appreciate your own culture as well as a foreign culture can be quite enriching and enjoyable if you take it with.. some Fruit Tree apple juice.

Just kidding.

Maybe it's because I've been able to appreciate music as "music", which means, even if you don't really understand what they're singing about half the time, you love it all the same. (As long as it's not vulgar/etc)I would definitely choose music in a different language than music in English that is full of... not-so-good-and-grey-and-shady kinda lyrics.

It's almost comparable to listening to rap, classical music or even the national anthem. You're not 100% sure what it means, but if it's not a bad song and you like how it sounds, it'll probably make it to your itunes playlist.

Someone commented recently that my saying "Anyonghaseyo" (hello greeting in Korean) was "cliché". I pondered about it for a bit and found it rather unfortunate that someone would actually find a foreign greeting a cliché.

Let me say that again.

"Greeting in a foreign language is a cliché."

It's definitely terribly unfortunate, (and I was so so tempted to ninja twack that person (:) because that person has not been able to feel the joy in appreciating a foreign language. I better not say NI HAO (chinese greeting)too may times or someone might tell me it's cliché, LOL.

exams start this friday, kinda worried i won't finish revision in time. *fingers crossed*

i had to reformat my laptop cos there was something wrong, i count myself lucky that my files could be backed-up. VERY LUCKY.

till i get photoshop back on my laptop, i will definitely feel partially paralyzed. (thank you bryce, you're sucha lifesaver)apparently, CS4 for Windows is out of stock in ALL POPULAR bookstores, island-wide. once i've got that up and running, i can FINALLY get barrage pictures up.. even though i'm a little disappointed with my shots. nonetheless, that's how we improve.

exams are coming, wowzers.

this tuesday i have an assignment from my business communications module that's due. we were given the assignment on friday.
we're supposed to have an e-portfolio done in a blog form kinda thing
i spent an entire afternoon creating that border up there...
but now i don't know how to put it in.
CSS and HTML stuff just don't jive with me but i'll find a way (:
it took a long time to create cos i learnt how to use textures to create the rustic-ish feel at the corners), experimenting and choosing the best.. i'll put up the link when it's done (should be soon cos it's due on tuesday! haha! joker.)

i've got posted to Changi Airport for my 6 week internship and i'm really excited! working hours are like 8.30am to about 6pm.. it'll be interesting.

with some simple adjustments to the exposure i managed to get this awesome picture in a temple that we visted in Hanoi. thanks sam (my younger brother) for your hand! haha.

there was this amazing intentional/unintentional gap/hole in the ceiling, with the sun light falling through. it was too awesome to walk away from. this is one of my first few shots that has so much drama in it.

stand for what you believe in. do what's right for the right reason.

(don't see a lot of cameras in Hanoi, so i was really happy to see this awesome minolta slr)

let's see. out of the 1118 pictures i took, i've done about 2 rounds of tedious filtering and finally got 87 pictures. out of that 87, i've slashed it down to less than 50 pictures for my upcoming photo ebook. HAPPINESS.

when i'm done with it i'll put up a link for it. haha, i'm really excited (:

oh yeah. CNET asia is doing this project on photographers in tertiary school (minus JCs) and NP Photography Club was one of them. i've got 2 pictures out there, check it out if you've got time to spare!

hey ya'll i'm like posting this in hanoi.
love it here but the weather is like HOT LIKE HOT CAN EVER GET.
vietnamese sounds so awesome. (and their KFC is really good)
we've practiced "road-crossing" the VIETNAM way and i think i'm a pretty good jay-walker, good enough to be certified. HAHA nah just kidding.

if only i had my card reader with me now, i'd upload some awesome shots.

we'll be leaving tonight and reaching Singapore late thursday to early friday morning kinda time, then i'll have photography stuff late morning.

Sometimes is seems that life is blah, lame, mean, throwing stuff (like lemons) at you. And even though you're like that moth just sitting there in a forsakened corner of the stairwell, make it the awesome-est corner of the stairwell anyone has ever seen.

Be that person among your friends to be kind to a new kid, or help a shy friend to feel more at ease. Offer help to those who need it, as little as it may seem. Even if they diss you and kick sand in your face for doing the right thing, pick yourself up, dust the dirt of your jeans and smile. make them wonder what makes you stay so happy because i know, you know that i know and i hope you know too. wink* (:

At the commissioning parade there was this overly overly overly excited dad that never seemed to stop filming on his cam corder. i had to time the shooting of my paranoma picture of the parade so that i wont get him in the picture. gosh!

He was prolly thinking, "i wish we had better seats so the video can come out better" or something like that. But i'm pretty sure he wasnt thinking how many people he was blocking. I think it comes down to being conscious of your surroundings and being more understanding. Most of the time, we're so caught up on how life is to us. "life is not going good".. or "life su**s".. that kinda stuff.

Fortunately, the whole isn't just about life and myself. Others have the tendancy of being influenced by your views and attitudes so if life "isn't good to you", do everyone a favour by "being good to others" (:

friday wasn't a good day. for some reason, nothing went right (for real). the only good thing was that it's my first time visiting SPCA since forever.. but even then the shots weren't fantastic. gosh!

as you can see, it was really tough getting a decent view, for starters.

yes i WAS spraying shots but i couldnt help it.. half the time there were hands and arms and body guards and who ever sitting there killing the picture. it's kidna funny though.

8. and someone was screaming so loud behind me, i think it almost shattered my camera.

say hi to my new wallpaper.

for all of you who dont know, (where have you been???)

mum and i went to see david archuleta at iluma (bugis) and i managed to get his autograph on his album. they only allowed one person below the stage per album. mum let me go in (i owe her so much) and get some pictures at the same time.

i met this really nice girl called tracy and her sis michelle. they're so cool! michelle couldnt go in too so mum and michelle chilled while tracy and i got our albums signed.

we only got 5 seconds to talk to him (while he signed)

so i was like "hi david i'm lds!!"

then he was like "yay, CTR!"

haha then i gave him a high five.

they're concise and carry meaningful messages.

i stumbled on this 38 second mormonad video.
it's basically a normal poster with dimmension: there's narration and movement.. if you get what i mean.
